Google Pixel 10 will be the first smartphones to support satellite voice and video calls on WhatsApp
Google has announced a new feature coming to the Pixel 10 series of smartphones — support for voice and video calls via WhatsApp using satellite. This feature will be exclusive to the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL, starting with the official launch on August 28.
The announcement was made public on the Made By Google account in X, and was later confirmed by the official WhatsApp account. A short video accompanying the announcement shows a Pixel device receiving a call in satellite mode.
The video contains a note that the service will only work with operators that support the satellite function and may involve additional payments above the standard rate.
The video also states that you need to be in an open area with a direct view of the sky to make calls. Google also warns that the connection quality may be lower than on regular mobile networks, and connection times may be longer. Detailed specifications and limitations have not yet been released.
