Electronic Arts is cutting staff again, this time around 300 to 400 employees could lose their jobs, including around 100 employees at Respawn Entertainment. The studio is also halting work on a new project in the Titanfall series, Bloomberg reports.
"As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth," said Justin Higgs, a spokesman for Electronic Arts.
The canceled project, codenamed R7, was an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe, according to sources familiar with the matter. They note that the game was in early development and was still a long way from release.
Respawn has reached out to fans on social media, noting that it has decided to scrap two early-stage projects to focus on improving the Apex Legends battle royale and the next game in the Star Wars Jedi series.
Earlier this year, Electronic Arts lowered its fiscal year earnings forecast due to weak sales of EA Sports FC 25 and the decline in the popularity of Apex Legends. In addition, BioWare's latest game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, failed to meet expectations, which also led to staff cuts.
