This week, the main event in the world of technology was the deepening collaboration between OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, and former Apple chief designer Jony Ive. Together, they are working on a new futuristic device based on artificial intelligence. Although the company is not yet revealing details, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared possible information about the design of the new product.
According to Kuo, the device will be slightly larger than Humane's recently discontinued AI Pin, but at the same time will remain compact and sleek - like the iPod Shuffle, Apple's minimalist screenless player that came in various shapes: from rectangle to square.
Like the Shuffle, the OpenAI gadget will have no display but will connect to smartphones and computers. It will be equipped with microphones for voice control and cameras capable of recognizing the environment.
The device will be worn around the neck, unlike the AI Pin, which was attached to clothing with a clip. Kuo suggests that mass production could begin in 2027, although the final design and specifications may still change. By the way, the assembly and delivery of the device will take place outside of China to reduce geopolitical risks. Currently, the most likely location for assembly is Vietnam.
It's not yet known whether the device will be a success or a repeat of previous failed attempts to create an alternative to the smartphone. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is already testing it at home and calls the upcoming product "the coolest technological device the world has ever seen."
By the way, blogger and concept designer @BenGeskin created renderings of the future device based on known information.
