A demo of the vast open-world tactical RPG/strategy Shards of the Realm from solo developer Yevgeny Rebrakov from Kyiv, who creates this project in his free time, has been released on Steam.
The basis of Shards of the Realm is tactical turn-based battles between squads of fighters. With destruction, flank attacks, cover, the effect of altitude, and the physical characteristics of projectiles.
An important element of the game is managing your own fortress. Building structures, hiring workers, researching technologies, distributing resources, etc. The fortress serves as a central production hub, allowing you to create equipment and supplies for your squad.
In addition to tactical battles, Shards of the Realm offers journeys across a huge global map. The game world is populated by six different NPC factions, with unique goals and relationships. Players can form alliances, trade, complete quests, or even provoke conflicts. The world functions autonomously and develops independently of the player's actions, but it is their decisions that will ultimately determine the political landscape and the fate of the kingdom. All this sounds like we are being offered something like Mount & Blade, but with turn-based tactical battles.
Shards of the Realm was released in Steam Early Access in October 2024, and now the game has a full demo version, which can be found on the project page. Shards of the Realm costs 325 UAH, the game supports the Ukrainian language, both text and voiceover. Try the demo and add to your wishlist.
