The Chinese company Shanghai Electric has introduced its first industrial humanoid robot SUYUAN, writes Interesting Engineering.
SUYUAN debuted at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2025) in Shanghai. The robot has 38 degrees of freedom and 275 TOPS of onboard computing power, allowing it to perform precise operations and smooth movements.
The robot weighs 50 kg and is 167 cm tall. It was designed to work in production — from conveyors to logistics and warehouses. The robot is able to carry up to 2 kg with one hand and up to 10 kg in total. It moves at a speed of about 5 km/h and navigates thanks to LiDAR and binocular vision. A powerful processor ensures fast data processing and allows you to execute commands formulated in natural language, thanks to interaction with large language models.
During demonstrations, the robot successfully identified, picked up, and moved boxes of various sizes.
The company stressed that the launch of SUYUAN is a key step in the development of industrial automation and the integration of AI into robotics. Incidentally, Shanghai Electric already has 189 patent applications in the field of humanoid robots, of which 120 have been approved.
Recall that recently, another Chinese company, Unitree Robotics, began selling the humanoid robot Unitree R1, which costs $5,900.
