Samsung has begun mass production of cameras with continuous zoom, but not for Galaxy smartphones
Samsung has begun mass production of new camera modules for smartphones with continuous optical zoom technology, NotebookCheck reports. According to Chinese sources, these sensors are intended for flagship models of Chinese manufacturers and will not appear in their own Galaxy devices in the near future.
Unlike most modern smartphone cameras, which use a fixed optical zoom (such as 3x or 5x) and digital zoom in between, Samsung’s new system allows you to change the focal length over a wide range without losing quality. This is achieved by moving internal lens elements, similar to those found in professional cameras. This approach ensures that images are sharp at any zoom level within the available range.
Despite the fact that the development belongs to Samsung, the first smartphones with such cameras will be released by Chinese manufacturers. According to sources, Samsung Electro-Mechanics division created and launched into mass production these modules on orders from several Chinese brands.
The reason for this decision is said to be the company's business strategy. Chinese manufacturers are more likely to introduce new and unproven technologies to stand out in the market, while Samsung chooses a more cautious approach - testing and optimizing before integrating them into its own flagship models.
Thus, owners of future Galaxy smartphones, particularly the S26 series, will likely not get this feature. However, if the technology proves itself well on Chinese smartphones, it may appear in the flagships of the Galaxy S27 series.
