Samsung integrates Perplexity artificial intelligence into its devices
Samsung is close to a major deal with Perplexity AI that would integrate the startup’s search capabilities into the company’s ecosystem of devices. Bloomberg reports that the parties are discussing pre-installing Perplexity’s app and voice assistant on future smartphones, as well as embedding search into Samsung’s browser and, potentially, its Bixby virtual assistant.
The company plans to announce the integration this year, and one of the first devices with the new assistant could be the Galaxy S26 — its release is expected in the first half of 2026. Negotiations are ongoing and final details have not yet been approved.
Perplexity AI is an American startup that offers an alternative to traditional web search by generating answers to user queries in a chatbot-like format. The company is growing rapidly, with millions of users already using its technology and a recent partnership with Motorola. Perplexity is currently in talks to raise $500 million from Samsung, which could value the company at $14 billion.
The deal would help Samsung reduce its reliance on Google, echoing Apple's approach as it seeks alternatives to Siri. Apple previously confirmed it was in talks with Perplexity, but it's unclear how a potential partnership with Samsung would affect those plans.
The parties are also discussing the creation of a separate OS with artificial intelligence functions and an AI agent application that can combine the capabilities of Perplexity and other assistants.
