Samsung is accelerating the development of a new generation of LPDDR6 RAM, aiming to take a leading position in the market, WccfTech reports with reference to Business Post.

This decision is due to growing competition in the memory manufacturing sector, in particular from Chinese manufacturer CXMT, which recently completed the development of LPDDR5X and plans to move to mass production of LPDDR6 in 2026.

Samsung uses an advanced DRAM manufacturing process called "1c", which allows for significantly higher data transfer rates while consuming minimal power. Mass-produced DRAM has different generations of technology. The first generation is designated as "1x" and the sixth is designated as "1c". Each stage increases memory performance and improves its energy efficiency.

LPDDR6 is expected to play a key role in the development of technologies including artificial intelligence, smartphones, robotics, and autonomous cars that require fast and energy-efficient memory.

Qualcomm is the first customer to use LPDDR6 memory. Rumor has it that the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor, scheduled for launch on September 23, will support this memory. There is no information about other potential customers yet, but if Samsung is the first to introduce LPDDR6 memory, it could attract more customers and provide the company with a high level of revenue.
