Q2 2025 was an incredibly successful quarter for Samsung smartphones

- 15 July, 01:56 PM

Global smartphone shipments grew 1% to 295.2 million units in the second quarter of 2025. While the overall picture is positive, demand is falling due to tariffs and economic uncertainty, especially for low-end models. Despite this, Samsung was able to further strengthen its leadership, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).

According to a new report, the South Korean company outperformed the market overall and increased its share by 7.8% compared to the same period in 2024.

"Samsung was able to consolidate its market leadership and outperform the overall market achieving strong growth in the quarter driven by the sales of its new Galaxy A36 and A56 products," said Francisco Jeronimo, IDC's vice president of client devices. "These new products introduce AI-enabled features to mid-range devices, which has been effectively used in retail stores to drive sales, as more consumers become curious about AI."

Meanwhile, IDC notes that given "ongoing political challenges, the impact of war, and the difficulties caused by tariffs," even a 1% increase is an indicator that the smartphone market is ready to return to growth. Overall, mobile device shipments have been growing for the 8th consecutive quarter, the last time this happened was in 2013.

Other companies that saw growth in shipments include Apple, which ranks second and increased its market share by 1.5% compared to 2024, and vivo, whose share increased by 4.8%. Xiaomi, the world's third largest supplier, has a slight increase of 0.6%.
