Samsung is reviewing its Exynos and ISOCELL units after their consistent failures
Samsung has begun a detailed analysis of the work of its Samsung Semiconductor division, which produces Exynos chips and ISOCELL image sensors, Sammobile reports, citing Chosun Media.
Samsung took this step due to low demand for its semiconductor products and problems in its production, which makes it impossible to compete with industry leaders such as TSMC. The audit is being conducted by the newly created Management Diagnostics Department, established in November 2024 within Samsung Global Research. Despite significant investments, the performance of this department in recent years has not met expectations.
Exynos chips, particularly the 990 and 2200, have been quite inefficient compared to their competitors, consuming more power and delivering lower performance. While the Exynos 2400 has performed better, the launch of the Exynos 2500 has been delayed. As a result, Samsung is also reviewing the performance of its Samsung Foundry and System LSI divisions, which have been experiencing losses in recent years.
In 2024, the losses of these divisions amounted to 2.7 to 3.45 billion US dollars. Despite the promise to invest $ 118 billion by 2030, Samsung's share of the semiconductor market has declined significantly. The analysis should help the company identify problems in its technology and decision-making processes.
