Although Samsung is actively promoting the Galaxy Fold 7 as its flagship Ultra model, the company is likely expecting a sales slump. According to The Elec, Samsung has reduced the initial production plan for the new series of foldable devices compared to its predecessors.
In the initial phase, the company plans to release 1.35 million foldable smartphones: 550 thousand Galaxy Flip 7 , 170 thousand Galaxy Flip 7 FE and 630 thousand Galaxy Fold 7. This is 260 thousand fewer than a year ago - a drop of about 20%. Interestingly, the reduction occurs despite the addition of a new model Galaxy Flip 7 FE to the lineup.
Under the new plan, Samsung has reduced its total foldable device production by 190,000 units compared to previous plans announced in May. The company has already shared the updated volumes with component suppliers.
The reason for the decline in production may be instability due to US tariffs and a general slowdown in the global economy .
However, Samsung has reportedly increased production plans for the Galaxy S25 series . Specifically, it wants to produce 690,000 Galaxy S25s , 270,000 S25+s , and 1.13 million S25 Ultras , which is 740,000 more units than planned last month.
As a reminder, analysts from Counterpoint Research have lowered their forecast for smartphone shipments growth in 2025 — instead of the expected 4.2%, the growth will be only 1.9%. Despite the positive dynamics in most regions, Donald Trump's tariffs will seriously affect the markets of North America and China.
