The Galaxy Fold7 uses a foldable OLED panel from Samsung Displays, which has passed a 500,000-fold test — 150% more than the previous version.

The panel was tested by Bureau Veritas, a company specializing in inspection and certification. According to Samsung, the durability was increased by 2.5 times - from 200,000 folds in the previous generation to 500,000 in the current one.

Testing lasted 13 days at 25°C, and even after 500,000 folds, the Galaxy Fold7 panel remained fully functional. This is equivalent to over 10 years of use for an average user who folds their smartphone 100 times a day, or over 6 years for more active owners who fold their smartphone more than 200 times a day.

According to Samsung, this level of durability was achieved thanks to a new impact-resistant panel design, created by analogy with bulletproof glass. Samsung Display used a multilayer structure that combines tempered glass and plastic films, increased the thickness of the outer ultra-thin glass by 50%, and used a new highly elastic adhesive that is applied to each layer inside the OLED panel.

Despite the impressive performance of the Galaxy Fold7, OnePlus claimed back in 2023 that its foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Open, could withstand up to a million folds. However, the veracity of these claims has remained in question. For comparison, the Galaxy Fold5, which also debuted in 2023, failed after 400,000 folds.

Recall that Samsung also plans to release a foldable smartphone without a fold, ahead of Apple in this matter. Such a display will probably be seen in the Galaxy Fold8, which will be presented in the summer of 2026.
