Blogger tested Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 for durability

Blogger JerryRigEverything tested the Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 for physical endurance to identify the device's strengths and weaknesses.

Testing revealed that the internal 8-inch screen remained as sensitive to physical damage as in previous models. Scratches appear already at the second level of the Mohs scale, meaning the screen is easily damaged even by fingernails or small debris from a pocket. An additional protective film is applied to the internal screen, but it provides minimal protection.

The external 6.5-inch screen, which is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, has significantly better protection. Scratches on it are visible from level 6 on the Mohs scale. The back panel and the lenses of the main cameras also showed high scratch resistance. They are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The weak point of both Fold 7 screens was their prolonged heating. Testing showed that they are quite susceptible to image burn-in.

Despite the IP48 rating, which means it's protected against particles larger than 1mm and short-term water exposure, JerryRigEverything's tests confirmed that sand can still damage the internal display. At the same time, the updated Armor Flex hinge, which is officially 27% thinner and 43% lighter, proved to be quite durable: it doesn't jam or creak when sand gets on it.

Further tests showed that the smartphone's body withstands reverse bending and mechanical pressure well, but the soft surface of the internal screen remains the most vulnerable part of the smartphone.

In general, the blogger emphasizes that although the Galaxy Fold 7 costs from $2,000, this smartphone is recommended for users who are prepared to use the device carefully.

By the way, it recently became known how much it will cost to replace screens for the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 and Flip 7 foldable smartphones.
