Samsung is preparing to introduce Ballie this summer, a smart home robot companion with artificial intelligence elements, which it has been working on since 2020. First shown at CES in January of the same year, Ballie is a ball-shaped robot that can move around the house, record videos, recognize voice commands, and perform various tasks.
Over time, Ballie’s capabilities have expanded significantly. Samsung is now working with Google to integrate generative AI capabilities powered by Google Cloud. This will allow the robot to engage in natural dialogues and help around the home, anticipating the user’s everyday needs.
Ballie will be able to control lighting, interact with smart appliances, greet guests, remember individual schedules, create reminders, and much more. In the demo video, the robot selects videos for a child to watch, advises what to wear, reminds them of the cold weather, and helps organize morning gatherings for school or work.
Ballie will use Google's Gemini AI to process audio, voice commands, images from its built-in camera, and sensor data, and will be able to provide personalized health and wellness advice.
Samsung has not yet revealed the price of the device and the exact date of the start of sales, but confirms that the release will take place in the summer.
