Ahead of the official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, a detailed teardown of the new console has been released on YouTube channel ProModding. It shows the internals of the device, including the cooling system, battery, and motherboard.
The back of the console is secured with screws that Nintendo has hidden under red and blue stickers. Once they are removed, the case can be opened relatively easily. The built-in stand is also removable, although its durability is questionable. Inside the device is a metal plate with thermal paste, also attached with screws, which helps distribute heat from the processor. Removing the plate gives access to the cooling system, which consists of a small fan and a copper heat pipe, which should provide effective cooling of the console while its power consumption is up to 10 watts.
There are some design flaws in the console: the USB-C ports are soldered to the motherboard, making them difficult to replace if damaged. The battery was not removed in the video, so it is not yet known whether it is secured with glue, like in the previous version of the Nintendo Switch.
Despite some design differences, the new Nintendo Switch 2 promises improved performance and usability. The price in Europe for the base model Nintendo Switch 2 starts from €365 to €519, depending on the country, while the Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with the digital version of Mario Kart World costs from €499 to €569, also depending on the region.
