The first-ever robot boxing tournament, organized by China Media Group – Mecha Fighting Series, has kicked off in China. The debut fight between humanoid robots took place on May 25, 2025 in the city of Hangzhou, Global Times reports.

The robots, created by Unitree Robotics, took part in the duel. They are equipped with a wide range of combat capabilities, and the tournament itself consists of exhibition and competitive matches. In the battles, humanoid robots, controlled by teams of four people, demonstrate various techniques and fight in the arena.

One of the participants in the tournament is the company's flagship humanoid robot, Unitree G1. It is 1.32 meters tall and weighs 35 kilograms, and is equipped with advanced computing power and smooth motion control. Unitree G1 was designed to operate in environments that are difficult for humans and has enhanced flexibility and agility.

According to experts, such duels between robots provide high-tension, dynamic scenarios that test their structure, control and decision-making capabilities thanks to artificial intelligence.

In addition to Sunday's event, China is also planning another boxing tournament between full-size humanoid robots in December 2025. It will be held in Shenzhen. The event's organizer, EngineAI, says the goal of the event is to showcase cutting-edge advances in artificial intelligence and robotics through highly competitive and visually stunning battles, as well as to promote industrial modernization and the wider adoption of robotics.

Chinese scientists recently developed a wireless robot that they say is the world's smallest and lightest. One of its key features is the ability to change shape to move on land or in the air.
