Roblox will require a face scan or ID for unrestricted chat access

Roblox is rolling out new age verification measures for unlimited text chat and other social features. Now, to use the Trusted Connections feature (formerly called "Friends"), users must confirm they are over 13. This is done through a new age assessment system that analyzes video selfies through a model developed in collaboration with Persona, The Verge reports.

If the system cannot correctly determine the age, the user will be required to verify with an ID. In the future, verification through parental consent will also be possible. Biometric data will be stored for up to 30 days, unless required by law for longer.

The new rules also limit communication between teenagers and adults: you can add a person over 18 to Trusted Connections only if you meet them in real life via a QR code or import contacts.

Despite the removal of filters, Roblox will continue to monitor messages to prevent potentially dangerous behavior, including the abuse of minors or the distribution of prohibited content.

Recall that in parallel, the European Union is testing its own solution for age verification - a prototype is being launched in Denmark, Greece, Spain, France and Italy. The application allows you to confirm that the user is over 18 years old without transferring personal data to the platform. This is a temporary measure before the introduction of the European Digital Wallet in 2026, which will provide secure identity verification on the Internet.

New initiatives by Roblox and the European Union demonstrate the growing attention to children's safety online and the need for uniform digital standards for age verification.
