Famous actor Ryan Reynolds has suggested that Disney create an R-rated Star Wars film, but the Canadian actor says he wouldn't want to star in it himself because he doesn't think he'd be right for the role, Variety reports.

"I pitched to Disney, I said, ‘Why don’t we do an R-rated "Star Wars" property? It doesn’t have to be overt, A+ characters. There’s a wide range of characters you could use," Reynolds said. "And I don’t mean R-rated to be vulgar. R-rated as a Trojan horse for emotion. I always wonder why studios don’t want to just gamble on something like that."

Continuing to talk about his offer, Reynolds noted that he wouldn't want to star in the film himself. Instead, he would like to have some kind of behind-the-scenes role, either as a producer or a writer.

"I’m not saying I want to be in it. That would be a bad fit. I’d want to produce and write or be a part of behind the scenes. Those kinds of IP subsist really well on scarcity and surprise. We don’t get scarcity really with ‘Star Wars’ because of Disney+, but you can certainly still surprise people," the actor said.

Reynolds notably starred in Disney's first R-rated film with Deadpool and Wolverine, which was released in 2024 and became a box office hit, grossing $1.3 billion. However, there is no other show in the Star Wars universe with a similar rating, and the closest thing to it is probably Andor, which recently received a second season.

Among the upcoming plans for the franchise is the film The Mandalorian and Grogu starring Pedro Pascal, which wrapped filming last December. The premiere of this film is scheduled for May 22, 2026. Also in the works is the film Star Wars: Starfighter from Sean Levy, director of the aforementioned Deadpool and the Wolverine, where Ryan Gosling will play the main role.
