We were able to install Windows on the Pixel Watch 3

- 2 April, 02:53 PM

Enthusiastic engineer Gustave Mons ran Windows on his Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch. It took Mons a long time to do so. He writes about all the difficulties on his blog.

First, he had to verify the root boot image and modify the stock UEFI to run the custom version. After that, he edited the ACPI table and fixed a number of other files before he was able to run Windows PE on his Pixel Watch 3. Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) is a lightweight version of the Windows operating system.

The Windows clock can hardly be called functional – it doesn’t even display the time. The engineer admits that the idea arose as an April Fool’s joke. When asked “why?” he jokingly replies that he doesn’t know. At least he managed to turn the smartwatch into a USB drive.

However, this humorous project also demonstrates how functional smartwatches have become today. Last year, another enthusiast was able to run Minecraft on his Galaxy Watch 4.
