Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has received its biggest update in its decade-long history, Siege X, which, among other things, makes the base game free for everyone. It's now available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X|S and One, Windows, and Amazon Luna.
Free access isn’t the only update, as Siege X has a lot more to offer, including a new Dual Front mode that will be available on PC, PS5, and Series X|S. In this mode, players will compete in 6v6 teams to capture enemy positions and defend their own. Interestingly, this is the first mode in Rainbow Six Siege where players will be able to choose both offensive and defensive operators on the same team.
In addition, Siege X will bring other improvements - updated graphics, improved gameplay and sound. In particular, the game will feature five modernized maps for 5v5 matches with improved lighting, shadows and higher resolution - Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank and Kafe. In the following seasons, it is planned to update three more maps.
Gameplay changes include brand new destructible elements, including gas pipes, metal detectors, and fire extinguishers. The descent navigation and inertial movement have also been improved for smoother control. The sound has also been improved and made more realistic so that players can receive more important information. At the same time, the operator selection and blocking system and the ShieldGuard anti-cheat have been updated.
The updated free base version of Rainbow Six Siege X will feature Unranked, Quick Match, and Dual Front modes, as well as several key Operators. For more advanced access, there are Elite and Ultimate Editions, which will unlock all game modes, including Ranked, and additional Operators, depending on the paid version chosen. All players who already own the game will keep their existing content and receive a special Veteran reward, based on the year they first logged into Rainbow Six Siege.
