American company Qualcomm has announced the acquisition of MovianAI, the generative artificial intelligence division of VinAI, owned by Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup.
VinAI is known for its achievements in machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing. VinAI founder Dr. Hung Bui, who previously worked at Google DeepMind, will join Qualcomm along with the MovianAI team. He said the acquisition will help scale innovation in industries such as smartphones, PCs, automobiles and more.
Qualcomm has been working with VinAI for more than 20 years, including in the areas of 5G, the Internet of Things and automotive. This move is aimed at strengthening Qualcomm's position in artificial intelligence, which is currently one of the most promising areas of technology. The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
