Qualcomm has officially announced the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 mobile processor, which replaces the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, released in 2024.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is built on a 4nm process and features 8 cores: one powerful ARM Cortex-A720 core clocked at 2.8GHz, three performance A720 cores (up to 2.4GHz), and four power-efficient Cortex-A520 cores (up to 1.84GHz). The integrated Adreno GPU supports HDR gaming and modern APIs such as OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.3. The new processor delivers 27% faster CPU performance and 30% faster graphics compared to its predecessor.

The chipset supports artificial intelligence and can run large language models directly on the device. It is the first 7-series processor to generate images via Stable Diffusion 1.5. The updated Hexagon neural processor will also provide voice assistants, computer vision systems, real-time translation and other AI functions.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is equipped with a built-in 5G modem, supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The cameras can have a resolution of up to 200 MP, and video recording is possible in up to 4K at 30 frames per second.

The new chip supports WQHD+ displays with a frequency of up to 144 Hz, UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5x RAM, USB 3.1 interface, and Quick Charge 5 fast charging technology.

The first smartphone powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 could arrive as early as this month. It is expected to be the Honor 400.
