Tesla sales fall 21% in the largest electric car market in the US

Tesla's sales in California, the largest electric vehicle market in the US, have fallen by 21%, negatively affecting the entire electric car segment, Electrek reports, citing a report by the California New Automobile Dealers Association (CNCDA). California accounts for about a third of all electric vehicle sales in the US, making this region crucial for the industry.

Although Tesla has long dominated the California market, its share here has been steadily declining since 2024. The report for the second quarter of 2025 confirms this: Tesla delivered 41,138 electric vehicles in California, compared to 52,000 in the same period last year.

This is the seventh consecutive quarter that Tesla's sales have declined year-over-year, and the fourth consecutive quarter-over-quarter.

The CNCDA noted that Tesla's weak performance is dragging down the entire California electric vehicle market. In the first half of 2025, Tesla registrations fell by 18.3% compared to the same period in 2024.

Interestingly, Tesla’s electric vehicle sales decline is not limited to the US, but also worldwide. In the second quarter of 2025, the company recorded a 13.5% drop in global deliveries, more than the expected 10%. A total of 384,122 electric vehicles were delivered, of which 373,728 were the two most popular models, the Model 3 and Model Y. The other models together provided only 10,394 units.

By the way, it also recently became known that the Chinese company BYD overtook Tesla in sales in Europe for the first time.
