If Apple made cameras: SIGMA BF is made in an all-metal body and has no memory card slot
Japanese manufacturer SIGMA has introduced its new BF mirrorless camera, which is made in the best traditions of Apple.
As Sigma describes it, the BF is "a radically simple camera that evokes the essence of photography." It's not the boring black box with a full-frame sensor that competitors typically offer. It's something radically different.
The camera is made in Japan, but has a Scandinavian minimalist design. It's crafted from a single block of aluminum, which Sigma says takes over seven hours to complete. It measures 130.1 x 72.8 x 36.8mm, weighs 446g (with battery), and is compatible with L-mount lenses.
The SIGMA BF packs a 24MP full-frame sensor and 6K video recording capability into its body, but only has an electronic shutter — no mechanical shutter. The SIGMA BF is quite similar in specs to the Panasonic Lumix S9, another compact full-frame mirrorless camera.
On the sides and bottom of the SIGMA BF there is only one ring for a wrist strap, a tripod mount, a removable battery and a USB-C port; there are no other ports for headphones or a microphone. The manufacturer even abandoned the memory card slot - instead there is only 230 GB of internal memory.
The camera has a suggested retail price of $1999/£1969. It is available for pre-order now and is available in two colors: silver or black.
In addition, SIGMA has announced two lenses alongside the camera: the 300-600mm F4 DG OS for cameras with full-frame sensors and the 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS for cameras with APS-C sensors. The professional 300-600mm lens will cost $5,999/£5,899, while the 16-300mm, which is the world's first mirrorless lens with an 18.8x optical zoom, will cost $699/£599. Both lenses will be available in April.
