Lenovo and Google have introduced the new Chromebook Plus 14, a laptop with a MediaTek Kompania Ultra 910 ARM processor that promises a significant improvement in performance and up to 17 hours of battery life.
This is an important step for Chromebooks, because most such devices previously ran on Intel or AMD processors, and it is ARM technologies, which have proven themselves well in Apple products, that are now beginning to be actively implemented in laptops running Windows and Chrome OS.
The new Chromebook Plus 14 has a 14-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and can be equipped with a touchscreen.
It resembles a MacBook in design - light and thin, weighing about 1.17 kg and over 1.5 cm thick.
Lenovo offers options with 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. The new product has a sound system with Dolby Atmos support and four speakers, including two facing downwards. The laptop also has a 5-megapixel webcam and a fingerprint scanner for security.
Lenovo and Google have added new Gemini AI features to the device. Unique to the Chromebook Plus 14 is Smart Grouping, which organizes open tabs and documents into virtual workspaces.
The Gallery app also has AI editing tools for removing backgrounds or creating stickers from photos.
Other AI features coming to all Chromebooks Plus include screen-selected search, text recognition in images with suggested actions (creating a calendar event or grocery list), and AI image generation.
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is now available in the US starting at $649. By the way, when purchasing the new product, users will also receive free access to the Google One AI Pro plan for one year with 2 TB of cloud storage and advanced AI capabilities.
