Lenovo showed a conceptual laptop with a solar panel for charging
Lenovo announced a new concept laptop — the Yoga Solar PC — at the MWC 2025 exhibition in Barcelona.
As the name suggests, this laptop has built-in solar panels that can charge it. Of course, for maximum efficiency, it is best to use it in direct sunlight.
The device's lid houses a solar panel with a solar energy conversion rate of over 24%. Lenovo says this is one of the highest in the industry, and it allows the laptop to charge in a reasonable amount of time.
However, the charging speed will likely be significantly slower than when plugged into a wall outlet. However, since this is just a concept, this drawback is not critical yet.
Lenovo claims that just 20 minutes of charging in the sun will provide about an hour of video playback. So if you leave the laptop charging for an hour, you can get about three hours of use.
Lenovo says it achieved the high solar energy conversion efficiency thanks to its "Back Contact Cell" technology. It maximizes sunlight absorption, which is why it can get one hour of battery life after 20 minutes of charging. It also ensures that the panels work efficiently even in low light, although charging is slower and less power is produced in such conditions.
According to the company, this is enough to keep the laptop charged in standby mode. However, during active use, the energy produced may not be enough to keep the device running.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not disclose other specifications of the laptop. Lenovo also did not say when it plans to release a production version of the device.
