New Qi2 25W wireless charging standard introduced for iPhone and Android smartphones
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has officially introduced Qi2 25W, an updated wireless charging standard that provides power up to 25 W. This is 66% more than the previous version of Qi2, which supported charging at around 15 W. Engadget writes about this.
The new technology is already integrated into the latest iPhone models. Since Apple previously switched to the basic Qi2 standard, the transition to Qi2 25W is a logical step, although it was not announced separately. As for Android smartphones, the situation is more complicated: most of them have not yet received Qi2 certification, although some models can technically support it if a special magnetic case is used.
In addition to smartphones, the new standard is used in external batteries and charging stations, which have already received certification in early July. According to WPC, 14 Android devices have already passed this certification. Now several hundred more devices are in the testing queue. However, the specific models of Android devices that will be the first to receive Qi2 25W support are not disclosed at this time.
Qi2 25W was first introduced in April 2025 under the name Qi2.2, and is now entering the commercial implementation phase.
