Microsoft and ASUS have officially announced the new ROG Xbox Ally portable gaming console. The device runs on a customized version of Windows 11, optimized for touch and gamepad controls. The console will be available in two versions: the basic Xbox Ally and the flagship Xbox Ally X.

The base model of Xbox Ally is equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 512 GB M.2 SSD. The device supports Wi-Fi 6E (2 x 2) and Bluetooth 5.4 communication technologies, and also has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, a microSD UHS-II card reader and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack. The built-in battery has a capacity of 60 Wh.

The more expensive version of the Xbox Ally X has a more powerful AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip with a built-in neural processor, 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1 TB M.2 SSD. The console also supports Wi-Fi 6E (2 x 2) and Bluetooth 5.4, has one USB4 Type-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a microSD UHS-II card reader and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack. The battery in this model already has a capacity of 80 Wh.

Both models feature a 7-inch IPS display with 1080p resolution, 500 nits brightness, 120 Hz refresh rate, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium technology. In addition, the screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+.

On these consoles, Microsoft has optimized Windows 11 for portable gaming, removing unnecessary background processes and elements that can affect performance. The company has also updated the Xbox App, turning it into a full-fledged launcher that integrates libraries from Steam, Epic Games, and other platforms.

Microsoft has not yet revealed the pricing of the Xbox Ally consoles, but it is reported that they will go on sale by Christmas 2025.
