PlayStation is making another cut at its studios, this time at Visual Arts in San Diego. Some of the laid-off workers were involved in the development of canceled game services, but according to Kotaku, the layoffs affected a much larger number of people.
An unknown number of Visual Arts employees in the San Diego office were told earlier this week that Friday, March 7, would be their last day at Sony. The team has been largely providing internal artistic and technical support to other PlayStation studios, and has worked with Naughty Dog on the Last of Us Part I and Part II remasters, among other things.
The recent layoffs are part of a long-term reorganization within Sony that has already seen changes in the company's leadership, including in its gaming division and PlayStation Studios. In addition, information recently emerged about the cancellation of the God of War game-as-a-service, which Visual Arts also worked on.
The exact number of employees laid off, as well as whether other studios have been affected by the layoffs, has not yet been announced. Sony has also not yet commented on these reports.
