PlayStation 6 could have three times the performance at the same price
Rumors about the specifications, price, and release date of the PlayStation 6 have surfaced online. According to a leak from YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead, Sony's new console could offer three times the performance of the base PS5 at a starting price of $499.
The information supposedly comes from AMD's presentation to Sony in 2023, so some specs may have changed. According to the leak, the PS6 will offer twice the 3D rendering performance of the PS5 Pro, while maintaining low power consumption and a moderate cost.
The console will support backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games. The $499 price tag could indicate Sony's desire to replicate the success of the PS4, which owes its popularity in part to its lower price compared to competitors.
In addition to the main console, Sony is reportedly developing a portable version of the PS6. The device will have a microSD card slot, M.2 SSD, touchscreen and haptic feedback. The specifications should surpass the ROG Ally X, and a USB-C port will provide connectivity to external displays.
The cost of the portable PS6 could be $400-500. According to rumors, production of both devices will begin in mid-2027 with a possible release in the fall of 2027 or early 2028.
It's worth remembering that this is unofficial information and should be taken with caution. Sony has yet to comment on any details regarding future consoles, and a potential announcement is still several years away.
