British independent studio Kinetic Games has announced that its horror game Phasmophobia will be adapted into a film. The film will be produced by the American film company Blumhouse, known for its horror films.

Blumhouse, known for films such as Five Nights at Freddy's, M3GAN and Black Phone, will also be producing the film, with production company Amoic Monster, which has worked on films such as Annabelle, The Nun and the Conjuring series, also joining the production team.

"We’re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development - it’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting," said Daniel Knight, Director of Kinetic Games. "We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops."

Phasmophobia is a cooperative horror game for four players, where they have to investigate paranormal activity in various haunted locations and collect as much evidence as possible, which can later be sold to the team involved in their exorcism.

According to Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia has already sold over 23 million copies since its launch in 2020, thanks to its unique blend of cooperative gameplay and horror elements. The company is currently finishing work on the Chronicle update, which will be released in June and will overhaul the leveling, rewards, and progression systems. The studio notes that several more updates will be released in 2025, one of which will add an entirely new map.
