The legendary Pebble smartwatch returns with a new name and two models — Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2
As previously reported, Eric Migikowski, the founder of Pebble, planned to revive the once popular Pebble "smart" watches. Google has retained the brand name, so the new models will appear with different "names", but will retain their essence.
Now Migikovsky has revealed the specifications of not one, but two models that will be available for purchase this year. Among the common features of the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 are: a familiar design, e-paper displays, 22-millimeter standard straps, IPx8 water protection, step counting and sleep tracking, PebbleOS, support for iOS and Android, as well as over 10 thousand applications. Additionally, the watches are equipped with microphones and speakers, backlighting, updated magnetic vibration motors (like those used by Apple and Sony in the DualSense), an expected operating time of up to 30 days, and are charged with standardized Pebble chargers.
In both cases, the watches will be available in white and black.
The cheaper Core 2 Duo version (reminds me of Intel, right?) will offer a 1.26-inch black-and-white display with a resolution of 144×168 pixels, a polycarbonate body, four buttons, a compass, and a barometer. The cost of such a model is $149, and it should go on sale in July.
The Core Time 2, in turn, has a 1.5-inch touchscreen with 64 colors and a resolution of 200×228 pixels, a metal body, and a heart rate sensor. This model will cost $225 and will be available to buyers starting in December.
Overall, the Core 2 Duo mostly repeats the old and familiar Pebble model, except that they have a couple of new trackers and significantly improved autonomy thanks to more modern chips. But the Core Time 2 is really something new, because first of all it will allow you to control the watch not only with the keys, but also directly from the display. Moreover, it has more trackers and even a metal case.
