PayPal launches one-time payment links that will support cryptocurrency
PayPal has introduced a new feature for one-time transfers between users — PayPal Links. This feature allows users to create personalized, one-time links to make or request a payment. This is reported by TechCrunch.
PayPal Links complements the existing PayPal Me service, which allows you to share a profile to receive payments, but does not tie the request to a specific amount until the payer enters it.
Unlike PayPal Me, new links are created for a specific transaction. The user selects the Create Link option in the PayPal app, enters the amount, and copies the generated unique URL. It can be pasted into a chat, message, or private message.
The link is private and only valid for this transaction. If the payment is not accepted within 10 days, it will be automatically canceled. The sender can send a reminder or cancel the request at any time.
The recipient opens the link and is taken to the PayPal app, where they can confirm or make a payment. Transfers are processed instantly.
PayPal Links will soon be adding support for cryptocurrency transactions in the US. Users will be able to send Bitcoin, Ethereum, PYUSD, and other assets to PayPal, Venmo, and other compatible crypto wallets, including stablecoins.
The feature is initially available only in the US, but is set to roll out to the UK, Italy and a number of other countries by the end of the month. PayPal is pitching the feature as a way to simplify one-time payments without having to search for a recipient's profile or verify their account.
