Pavel Durov made a will because of the "risks" in his business, but his children will receive the inheritance in 30 years
Telegram founder Pavel Durov said that at the age of 40, he "recently" made a will. In an interview with Le Point, he explained that this decision is related to the risks in his activities. Durov emphasized that he seeks to protect not only his children, but also the Telegram platform itself, so that it remains independent and true to the principles of privacy and freedom of speech.
"Because of the protection of freedoms, many enemies appear, including in powerful states. I want to protect my children, as well as the Telegram company that I founded. I want Telegram to forever remain true to the values that I defend," Pavel Durov said in an interview with the French publication Le Point.
According to Durov, in the event of his "disappearance," management of the messenger will be transferred to a non-profit foundation, which will ensure the continuity of the platform's operation.
He also noted that his children would only be able to access the inheritance after 30 years.
"I want them to live like ordinary people, build themselves, learn to trust themselves so they can create, and not depend on their bank account," Durov said.
The Telegram founder stressed that he does not distinguish between his children born naturally and those born through donation. According to him, he has 6 "officially recognized" children from three women, as well as more than 100 children born through donation. Durov added that one of his sons "just got born" but he "misses the first months of his life" because he cannot leave France.
Recall that Durov is under investigation in France, which is why he is prohibited from leaving the country without special permission. In August last year, he was detained at Paris airport on suspicion of supporting criminal activity on Telegram, without taking measures to prevent criminal use of the platform. Since September, Durov has been released on bail, but since he continues to be under investigation, he is prohibited from leaving France without the permission of law enforcement agencies.
Today, Pavel Durov remains the sole shareholder of Telegram, owning 100% of the company. He believes this is the only way to guarantee the platform's complete independence. His fortune is estimated at $17.1 billion and he is on the list of the richest people in the world, where he ranks 134th.
