Paramount plans to make a feature film based on the game Call of Duty
Paramount has inked a deal with Microsoft and Activision to produce the first feature-length film adaptation of the Call of Duty video game series, Variety reports. Details of the plot, cast, and era chosen are not yet disclosed, but the deal could mark the beginning of a major expansion of the franchise beyond gaming.
Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises in history, having sold over 500 million copies and grossed over $30 billion since 2003. The series has produced over 30 major installments, ranging from World War II campaigns to modern and futuristic combat. Despite its popularity, none of the games have yet received an official film or television adaptation.
Paramount Chairman and CEO David Ellison described himself as a longtime fan of the series and said the studio is committed to preserving the recognizable style and narrative of Call of Duty while opening it up to new audiences. Activision President Rob Kostic added that the partnership with Paramount will bring the franchise's "intense stories" to the big screen.
The project is part of Paramount's broader strategy following its $8 billion merger with Skydance. The company also signed an exclusive deal with the creators of Stranger Things and spent $7.7 billion on UFC broadcast rights for seven years. The next game in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, is scheduled to release on November 14, 2025.
