OpenAI is preparing a TikTok-style app for AI videos based on Sora 2
OpenAI is working on launching a separate application for viewing, generating, and sharing videos, WIRED reports.
The interface will resemble TikTok: a vertical feed, swipe to view, algorithmic recommendations, the ability to like, comment, and remix videos. Uploading your own content is not allowed, only generation in the app.
Users will be able to generate clips up to 10 seconds long. The app has an identity verification system: after confirming your identity, you can use your own image in the video and also allow others to tag you.
The app is already being tested internally and has received positive feedback from employees. OpenAI sees it as a chance to replicate the ChatGPT effect, but in the video space. The launch could coincide with uncertainty surrounding TikTok in the US, creating a window of opportunity for the company.
Sora 2 will compete with new AI video services from Meta and Google. Meta recently launched the Vibes feed in its Meta AI app, and Google integrated the Veo 3 model into YouTube. TikTok, on the other hand, has tightened its rules on AI content, banning videos that are misleading.
