New ChatGPT Pulse feature will create personalized digests for users
OpenAI has launched a new feature, ChatGPT Pulse, that automatically generates personalized morning digests for users. Pulse generates five to ten short summaries while the user sleeps, so that they immediately receive relevant information in the morning - from news picks to personalized advice or plans for the day.
Pulse is part of OpenAI’s shift in approach to consumer products, with the company focusing on asynchronous work for users, rather than just answering questions, TechCrunch reports. According to OpenAI’s new head of applications, Fiji Simo, Pulse is the first step in that direction.
Pulse is currently only available to Pro subscribers for $200 per month, where the feature appears as a separate tab in the ChatGPT app. The company plans to expand access to Plus users in the future, but first it needs to optimize computing resources.
Each digest is displayed as a "card" with text and an image that you can click on to get a full report and ask follow-up questions. Pulse integrates with Google Calendar and Gmail, can create a daily plan or highlight important messages. If ChatGPT memory is enabled, the system takes into account previous conversations for more personalized recommendations.
In a demo for journalists, Pulse created both news reviews and everyday tips — from choosing Halloween costumes to family travel itineraries. Importantly, the service intentionally limits the number of cards and ends with the message "That's it for today" to differentiate itself from the endless social media feed.
In the future, OpenAI plans to make Pulse more "agent-like" — capable of making restaurant reservations or drafting emails for sending. But such capabilities will only appear after significantly improving the models and increasing user trust in the AI's automated actions.
