OmniVision has introduced the new 50-megapixel OV50X CMOS sensor with the highest dynamic range in the smartphone industry, designed for cinematic video capture. The sensor features 1.6 micrometer pixels in a 1-inch optical format.
The new OV50X sensor is designed for flagship smartphones and delivers high dynamic range (HDR) video and single-exposure video preview. It also offers excellent low-light performance, fast autofocus, and 4-in-1 clustering, giving a native resolution of 12.5MP and a frame rate of 180fps.
OmniVision notes that the new sensor also supports 60fps video recording with three-channel HDR. However, the OV50X offers high-quality 8K video with HDR dual analog amplification (DAG) and touch cropping.
The OV50X sensor features OmniVision’s TheiaCel technology, which boosts single-exposure HDR to 110dB, the highest in a smartphone. It also supports Quad Phase Detection (QPD) with 100% coverage for improved autofocus. The sensor is built with PureCel Plus-S stacked array technology for better low-light performance.
