At the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, they plan to launch an air taxi service for spectators

The organizers of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles are planning to offer spectators an innovative way to get around in the form of air taxis to avoid city congestion. The LA28 committee has announced a partnership with Archer Aviation, which will provide transportation for spectators between Olympic venues during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, writes the BBC.

Archer plans to use a fleet of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, including the Midnight model, which seats up to four passengers and takes off like a helicopter. Flights are expected to last 10–20 minutes and connect key locations with major sports arenas.

However, these aircraft have not yet been certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which currently precludes their commercial use. Archer founder Adam Goldstein hopes to receive key certification this year. If successful, the company plans to launch the service in time for the Games.

The flights, Goldstein said, should be priced in line with Uber premium rides. Users will be able to hail an air taxi through an app. Archer says their aircraft produce less noise and emissions than conventional helicopters.

Despite the technical and regulatory challenges, Archer Aviation believes the Los Angeles Games will be the perfect platform to showcase the future of urban transportation.
