Meta smart glasses with screen and price of $1000+ to debut by the end of 2025 — Bloomberg
By the end of 2025, Meta will introduce a premium version of its smart glasses, working on the Hypernova, which will cost between $1,000 and $1,400, and the product itself is seen as a key step towards creating an alternative to the iPhone and other Apple mobile devices, Bloomberg reports.
The Ray-Ban Meta glasses remain on sale for $299. The Hypernova’s higher price is due to the presence of a built-in display – a monocular panel located in the lower right part of the right lens. The information will be displayed in front of the right eye and will be clearest when the wearer looks down.
When the glasses are turned on, a "boot screen" will appear on the display with the logos of Meta and other partners, including chipmaker Qualcomm. Once the device is on, users will see a home screen consisting of circular icons arranged horizontally, similar to the app dock on Apple devices or the Quest mixed reality headset.
Hypernova glasses will have separate apps for taking and viewing photos, as well as for maps. They will also display notifications from smartphone apps, including messengers. The main focus of the device will be on photo and video shooting, as well as access to AI functions thanks to a built-in microphone and connection to a smartphone for calls and music playback.
Meta will use a specially adapted version of Android, but does not currently plan to launch a separate app store. The glasses will be controlled via touch controls, and in the future the company plans to add a wristband that will expand the gesture control capabilities.
Simultaneously with the first generation, Meta is actively working on Hypernova 2, the release of which is scheduled for 2027. The main difference will be the binocular display system - the device will be equipped with two screens, allowing information to be displayed on both eyes.
