NVIDIA is concerned about the rise of China's Huawei in the field of AI

President Donald Trump continues to urge American technology companies to increase local production, imposing increased tariffs and export restrictions. Among them is NVIDIA, which has pledged to invest $500 billion over four years to expand the production of AI chips. At the same time, its CEO is concerned that US restrictions on chip exports indirectly strengthen Huawei's position in the field of AI, writes Android Headlines.

According to Reuters, Jensen Huang, a Republican from the U.S. House of Representatives, told a closed-door meeting with the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee last week that restrictions on the sale of NVIDIA chips to China could make Huawei chips more competitive. One of the committee members added that if new AI models, such as DeepSeek R1, are trained on Huawei chips, it will create global demand for Chinese chips.

NVIDIA spokesman John Rizzo said Huang discussed with lawmakers the importance of AI for U.S. infrastructure and the role of local manufacturing. Rizzo stressed that the company adheres to U.S. restrictions and supports policies to develop American technology.

In an interview on April 30, Huang called the AI competition a "protracted war" and noted that Huawei has already made significant progress in computing, networking and software that could strengthen its leadership.

Due to sanctions, NVIDIA can no longer sell its H20 chips in China. Huawei has taken advantage of this, and is preparing to release its own Ascend 910C chips to fill the vacuum in the market.
