NVIDIA upgrades GeForce Now to RTX 5080 and adds thousands of new games
The GeForce Now cloud gaming service is getting a major upgrade in September. NVIDIA is launching new servers powered by Blackwell-class RTX 5080 GPUs with 48GB of frame buffer and DLSS 4 support. For $19.99 per month, Ultimate users will be able to essentially rent an RTX 5080 in the cloud and stream their games from their PC to their phone, Mac, TV, or Chromebook.
The company is also bringing back Install-to-Play, which will allow you to install games without waiting for NVIDIA to add them to your library. Thanks to integration with Steam Cloud Play, the list of games will instantly grow by more than 2,300 positions. NVIDIA promises to add new releases and demos faster in the future.
Among the new features:
- Stream in 5K 120fps or up to 360fps in 1080p for esports games.
- Cinematic Quality Streaming (CQS) with HDR10 and AI filters for a clearer picture.
- Enhanced bitrate up to 100 Mbps for better image quality.
- 90Hz support in the native Steam Deck OLED app.
- Native GeForce Now app for LG OLED TVs without additional devices.
- Compatible with Logitech haptic steering wheels.
Despite the significant upgrade, the subscription price will not change, although the company does not rule out possible adjustments in the future. The RTX 4080 will remain in circulation until the company expands its server fleet.
Among the games that will receive the RTX 5080 immediately: Cyberpunk 2077, Apex Legends, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Baldur's Gate 3, Black Myth Wukong, Doom: The Dark Ages and others.
Another interesting innovation is the integration with Discord, where you can instantly launch games (like Fortnite) without a GeForce Now account. So far, this is just a technical demonstration, but NVIDIA hopes that publishers will support the idea.
As a result, GeForce Now is becoming an even more competitive alternative to consoles, with powerful graphics, flexible streaming modes, and a record-breaking library of games.
In addition, the company also announced that GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards will receive new driver-level Smooth Motion frame generation technology.
