MediaTek introduces new Dimensity mobile processors

MediaTek continues to expand its mobile processor lineup with the launch of two new chips, the Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X. The new chips are the successors to last year's Dimensity 7300 and Dimensity 7300X.

The main change in the new processors is the overclocking of four productive Cortex-A78 cores by 100 MHz - they now operate at a frequency of up to 2.6 GHz. The central processor also uses two energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz. Like last year, the 7400X variant supports dual displays and will debut in future foldable smartphones.

The new Dimensity 7000 series chips are manufactured on TSMC's 4nm process and feature the same Arm Mali-G615 GPU, as well as support for LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. MediaTek has also added Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0, which balances performance for optimal battery life.

MediaTek's Network Observation System (NOS) provides 5G/Wi-Fi switching and network prediction algorithms. Connectivity options include a 5G modem, tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. MediaTek has also added the Imagiq 950 image processor, which supports 12-bit HDR and sensors with resolutions up to 200MP.

MediaTek says the first smartphones based on the Dimensity 7400 series will be released in the first quarter of 2025.
