Google's search engine, maps, and chatbot Gemini have received a new feature that will allow users to plan trips more easily, TechCrunch reports.

AI Overview in Google Search will be able to help users create travel plans. To do this, it will be enough to enter a search query like "create an itinerary for Costa Rica with an emphasis on nature." Users will then be able to view photos, reviews, and locations on a map and export the results to Docs or Gmail or save them to Maps.

This feature will only be available in the US for English searches on smartphones and the web for now.

The company has also opened up its Gem feature, which allows users to create custom experts through Gemini, to everyone. This means that users can now customize a travel planner that will help them choose a destination and suggest what to pack.

Additionally, Google will allow users to set hotel availability alerts. Previously, this feature was only available for flight price alerts. Now, users can specify a preferred date, location, and set additional filters such as hotel star rating, beach access, etc. This feature is now available to all users.

Google Maps will also be able to turn screenshots into vacation plans. When planning a new trip, users will be able to take screenshots or bookmark places they want to visit. The service will automatically identify locations and provide more information about them.

The update for Google Maps will be available in the US in English for iOS this week, and will be available on Android devices later.
