Nothing has promised a record-breaking support program for its upcoming smartphone, the Phone (3). According to brand co-founder Akis Evangelidis, the device will receive five years of Android updates and seven years of security updates. This is a significant step up from the Phone (2) (3+4 years) and the Phone (3a) Pro (3+6).

Phone (3) will also be powered by the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip. Nothing claims that it outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in graphics performance, neural network computing, connectivity, and image processing. Qualcomm officially offers four years of support for this chip, while Nothing extends that to 5+7.

Currently, only a few smartphone manufacturers can offer such a long support period. Samsung guarantees four years of Android updates and five years of security patches for its flagships and new mid-range models. Google promises a full 7 years of both Android updates and security updates for the Pixel 8 series - this is currently the longest official support for Android devices. Apple, traditionally, does not publish official terms, but in practice it supports its iPhones for about 6–7 years.

Against this background, Nothing's updated policy looks competitive, especially when combined with promises of stable performance, minimalist design, and support for the new Qualcomm chip. The smartphone is due to be introduced later this year and will cost around $1,000. It is also known that the new product will not have the brand's "chip" - the Glyph backlight.
