The new Nintendo Switch 2 console will get a special mode that will limit the battery charge to 90%. This is reported by Engadget with reference to Culture Crave. This feature was announced through the official Nintendo Today! app and is designed to prevent battery degradation.
The lithium-ion batteries used in modern devices can lose their efficiency if they are constantly kept at 100% charge. That's why Nintendo is suggesting that users sacrifice 10% of their charge to extend battery life. Switch 2 owners can enable this feature in the system settings by selecting the "Stop Charging Around 90%" option.
Similar technologies have long been used in smartphones, and recently it became known that Valve is also testing a similar feature for Steam Deck.
The Switch 2 is expected to go on sale on June 5, 2025, with pre-orders starting soon.
