Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 handheld console has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in just four days after its release on June 5, 2025.
This is the best first-day sales performance for any Nintendo console. In fact, it's the best performance of any game console in its release week, and it wasn't even hindered by its higher price tag – $449 versus $299 for the first generation.
For comparison, the original Switch sold 2.74 million units in its first month of release. The PlayStation 5 sold 4.5 million units between November 2020 and the end of that year. The PlayStation 4 sold 2.1 million units in its first two weeks.
The Nintendo Switch 2 also has a chance to set new records, including becoming the best-selling console of all time. That title currently belongs to another system, while the first-generation Switch from 2017 sold 152.12 million units, placing it in third place.
As a reminder, the Nintendo Switch 2 has received updated Joy-Con 2, which can be used as a mouse, a more powerful processor and graphics, support for voice and video communication via GameChat, and much more.
