Nintendo is introducing new changes to its User Agreement in an effort to combat piracy, giving the company the right to block the Nintendo Switch and render the device unusable if pirated games or modifications are found on it, Engadget reports.

Many users may have overlooked the changes, as the company didn't make a separate announcement about the update. However, they are there, and they state that users should not "circumvent, modify, decrypt, hack, interfere with, or otherwise circumvent any features or security measures of the Nintendo Account Services."

In the previous version of the Terms of Service, the company prohibited adapting, reworking, or modifying a Nintendo Account, but with the update, this wording has been added to the exact definition of what console owners will not be able to do with it. In case of violation of these rules, the company has the right to permanently disable the Switch in whole or in part.

In simple terms, Nintendo has the right to turn the Switch into a "brick" if users are caught piracy. We remind you that these changes were introduced shortly before the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. The new console will be released on June 5 and will cost $449.
