A Nintendo Switch 2 user has revealed that his console was blocked after installing updates for used games. According to Reddit user dmanthey, he bought four physical copies of games for the first generation Switch, updated them on the new console, and the next day received a message that he was blocked from accessing Nintendo's online services. This is reported by Tom's Hardware.
When he contacted support, he learned that the reason for the blocking was suspected piracy. After he sent photos of the cartridges and proof of purchase, the company quickly lifted the blocking. According to the user, the process was "much easier than with Microsoft or Sony."
Nintendo strictly monitors piracy and can block a console if it detects the same game being used on multiple devices with the same ID. This can happen if an unscrupulous seller has copied a game from an original cartridge and sold it as used.
While the company is willing to lift the ban in some cases, questions remain about the continued use of such games. If Nintendo believes that such cartridges are indeed pirated copies, further use could result in further bans.
