Nexus Mods, the largest platform for game mods, is changing hands
Robin Dark0ne Scott, who founded the game modding platform Nexus Mods in 2001, is stepping down from day-to-day management and the site is moving under new ownership, according to an official statement.
Scott explains that since 2001, he has been involved with the site every day, whether it's troubleshooting issues, collecting feedback, releasing updates, or participating in community discussions. This involvement with Nexus Mods has taken a toll on his health and daily life, ultimately leading to the decision to change ownership of the site.
"Every single day, for over two decades, I’ve been "on call", whether it was fixing issues, reading feedback, pushing updates, or getting pulled into the latest bit of community drama. It’s been rewarding, sometimes chaotic, often exhausting and always personal. Somewhere along the way, I forgot to step back and breathe, or sleep properly. The dilemma of running a major social network that does not rest!
The strain of being responsible for the behemoth I created has taken its toll. The stress of the job has been a regular source of anxiety and stress-related health issues. I realised that I have been burning out and this started to have an impact on my staff and Nexus Mods as a whole. So, I firmly believe that the best thing for the future of Nexus Mods is for me to step aside and bring in new leadership to steer the business forward with renewed energy to make Nexus Mods the modding community we all truly deserve," Dark0ne writes.
He also notes that there will be no major changes to the site's operations, as it has been run by a large team for a long time, and Scott himself has been increasingly absent from the business lately. However, what Scott doesn't say is about the new owners, except for the three names who will take over his duties - Foledinho (Victor), Rapsak (Marinus) and Taagen (Nikolai).
The question of the new owners was taken up by users, one of whom shared his find on Resetera. Nexus Mods is probably now owned by Chosen, a company that works with the founders of various platforms to help them with scaling and support. Judging by the site, Chosen is actively working in the gaming industry, but only time will tell what impact this will have on the largest platform for game mods.
